FGASA has developed the training strategies, assessment tools & learning materials and FGASA is responsible for the verification of its endorsed training providers on behalf of CATHSSETA. FGASA is a fully fledged Accredited training provider who endorses providers to carry out the training on behalf of itself.

As an association they have the opportunity to conduct their our own training but at present, elect to rather endorse other trainers to carry out the training. The FGASA endorsed trainers are all FGASA members, who have attained FGASA Accredited Training Provider Status.

Students may join FGASA, write their exams and be practically assessed without having completed any course, but many candidates are found not competent (75% required), unless they already have a good wildlife background. FGASA at present does not carry out training to the public, but does supply each exam candidate with a training manual and prescribed reading list as prperation for their theory exams..

FGASA may be utilised to gain the legally required Skills Programme in order to register as a Field Guide. See the FGASA Qualifications for more information.

FGASA qualifications do not form part of the legal requirements of becoming a field guide. However, they do form the basis of the industry standard and the vast majority of employers insist on FGASA qualifications. Therefore attaining the FGASA Levels is highly desirable and highly recommneded for career orientated field guides.
